The objective of the GPSD was to establish a safety net for all products not regulated by specific sector Directives or Regulations. The introduction of electronic commerce was one of the main reasons for initiating the revision of the GPSD. The changes will apply in addition to the Digital Services Act.   <\/p><p>Regulation (EU) 2023\/988 of May 10, 2023, repealed Directive 2001\/95\/EC (GPSD) and incorporated Directive 87\/357\/EEC regarding products which, appearing to be other than they are, endanger the health or safety of consumers, also known as \u201cFood Imitating Products.\u201d As was the case with the GPSD, the GPSR also applies to products covered by other specific Directives, but only for parts not already regulated by them, such as regarding the Complaints Register. <\/p><p>The new GPSR Regulation also amends Regulation (EU) 1025\/2012, which establishes rules concerning cooperation for the development of European standards for products and services in support of Union legislation, and Directive (EU) 2020\/1828 on representative actions for the protection of the collective interests of consumers.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-3ccde3e e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"3ccde3e\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0503b20 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"0503b20\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"516\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europeanqualitystandard.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image_7.jpeg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-image-3575\" alt=\"image 7\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.europeanqualitystandard.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image_7.jpeg 516w, https:\/\/www.europeanqualitystandard.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/image_7-300x228.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 516px) 100vw, 516px\"  title=\"GPSR - Online platforms must have single points of contact for product safety and the obligation to track their sellers. Authorities will be able to order the removal of unsafe products.  <\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2c98ea0 e-flex e-con-boxed e-con e-parent\" data-id=\"2c98ea0\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"e-con-inner\">\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cce1244 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"cce1244\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-9512232 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"9512232\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h5>Responsible person<\/h5><p>Companies can only sell in the EU if they have a responsible economic operator in the EU. Responsible parties must be able to respond to authorities and provide the required documentation and information. The goal is to increase return rates by offering consumers refunds, repairs, or replacements, where appropriate.
